Donald P. Lewis Jr., DDS, CFE is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and is currently in private practice in Cleveland, Ohio.
Educating a Surgeon
Originally from the eastside of Cleveland, Ohio, Dr. Lewis received his undergraduate degree from Valparaiso University (BS Chemistry), his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) from Case Western Reserve University School of Dentistry, and his Post graduate Residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at The University Hospitals of Cleveland. He is a Professor of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Case Western Reserve University School of Dental Medicine. In addition, he has been a guest lecturer in the MBA program at the Weatherhead School of Business at Case Western Reserve University, Department of Sociology at Kent State University , Department of Criminology at Bowling Green State University and Lakeland Community College in the area of Business Ethics.
Discovering Embezzlement
In 1993, Dr. Lewis discovered that his practice was a victim of a very silent and financially draining crime – embezzlement. Not knowing where to turn, he started his own investigation of the crime. He continued with the process of prosecution and recovery of lost funds on his own. After the recovery phase of his case, Dr. Lewis felt that he needed to know as much about not only this type of crime, but also the type of perpretrator that could cause such financial havoc in our practices. Dr. Lewis has researched the topic of white-collar crime extensively for the past 18 years. He brings an approach to this subject from the victims viewpoint.

Through his extensive research on the subject of embezzlement and fraud, Dr. Lewis has published over eighteen articles dealing with white-collar crime in local, state and national publications and authored two books, Employee Embezzlement and Fraud in the Dental Office: Scams, Schemes and Broken Dreams, and Your Roadmap to Financial Integrity in the Dental Practice: A Teamwork Approach to Fraud Protection and Security. These books are written exclusively to address this growing problem of fraud and embezzlement in the health care profession.

Dr. Lewis has earned the designation of “Certified Fraud Examiner “ (CFE) from the Board of Regents of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners and is a highly sought after and respected lecturer on the subject of white –collar crime. He has presented seminars to health care professionals, accountants and legal professionals across the United States and Canada.
His past seminar list is extensive and encompasses national, state and local dental societies as well as Private CPA firms, countless Study Groups, webinars, and university lectures.

AAOMS Citation
Dr. Lewis is the Chairman and originator of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons Committee on Software Development and Computer Technology which has developed and produced OMSVision®, the practice management software endorsed by American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (AAOMS).
Due to his voluntary commitment to this project, Dr. Lewis received the first ever AAOMS Special Citation Award in October, 2007 for his many years of expertise devoted to the successful launching of the OMSVision® software development and activities related thereto.
Dr. Lewis is also past Chairman of the Committee on Practice Management and Professional and Allied Staff for the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons.
Dr. Lewis has also copyrighted PAT©, the practice management software for fraud protection in the health care profession.
Other Passion
In his spare time, Dr. Lewis is a high school basketball official, and has been selected to officiate The Ohio High School Athletic Association State Tournament in Columbus, Ohio in 2007, 2009 and 2010. He also serves presently as the Vice President of the Northeast Ohio Basketball Coaches Association and is a Basketball Official Instructor in the Phil Garcia Basketball Officials school!
